Minnesota Senators Press Postmaster General on Mail Delays

Dec 13, 2024 | 6:25 AM

U.S. Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar are demanding answers from Postmaster General Louis DeJoy regarding significant mail delays across Minnesota, particularly in Rochester, where residents have gone four or more days without mail delivery.

The delays follow an Inspector General report revealing nearly 130,858 missing or delayed mail pieces at six post offices in just two days. The Senators, who previously led bipartisan efforts to address these issues, emphasized the importance of timely mail service for essential deliveries like prescriptions and Social Security checks.

“Letter carriers work hard to deliver mail on time, but without proper support, their jobs become nearly impossible,” said Senator Smith. Klobuchar echoed the sentiment, stating, “Minnesotans need and deserve reliable service.”

The Senators have introduced the bipartisan Postal Delivery Accountability Act, which aims to improve USPS tracking and accountability, and they continue to push for better service across the state.

The full letter to Postmaster General DeJoy can be found online, outlining their concerns and proposed solutions.
