Red Lake Tribal Police Officer Jesse Branch, 35, tragically died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 1 east of Red Lake on November 27, 2024, while responding to a call. The other driver, 37-year-old Alan Lussier Jr. of St. Paul, also lost his life in the collision
Officer Branch dedicated 17 years to law enforcement within the Red Lake Nation, beginning as a corrections officer and advancing to a police officer role. He was remembered for his unwavering commitment to the community and warm, welcoming nature.
In honor of Officer Branch’s service, Red Lake Tribal Chair Darrell G. Seki Sr. ordered flags to be flown at half-staff at tribal buildings. Additionally, the Front Line Foundation granted a $20,000 death benefit to his family, marking the seventh such benefit provided to fallen officers’ families in 2024.
The FBI, with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol, is investigating the circumstances of the crash. Further details have not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing
