Minnesota law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to ensure road safety during the holiday season. Starting today, over 300 agencies will participate in an enhanced DWI enforcement campaign running through the end of the year.
In the past five years, more than 125,000 individuals have been arrested for driving while impaired in Minnesota. To promote safe driving, officials recommend:
- Planning Ahead: Arrange for a sober ride before celebrating.
- Being a Designated Driver: Offer to drive or be available to pick up loved ones.
- Intervening: Prevent impaired individuals from driving by helping them find alternative transportation.
- Buckling Up: Always wear a seatbelt to protect against impaired drivers.
- Reporting: Call 911 to report suspected impaired driving, providing location, license plate number, and observed behaviors.
Additionally, it’s illegal for drivers or passengers to open cannabis packaging or consume cannabis while driving, similar to open container laws for alcohol.
