A 2022 burglary in rural New York Mills has ended with a two-year prison sentence for one of the suspects, thanks to an unusual clue—a jug of orange juice.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a break-in on August 5, 2022, where items like a Ruger .22-caliber handgun and a jug of orange juice were stolen. Witnesses later reported seeing two suspicious men in the area.
One resident recalled the men stopping at her home asking for water and a ride, with one carrying the orange juice. Deputies recovered the jug’s cap at her residence. When shown a photo lineup, the witness identified 34-year-old Jordan Anco of Staples as one of the suspects.
Anco was arrested on August 26, 2022, and faced multiple burglary charges. He later pleaded guilty to one count of 3rd Degree Burglary in April 2024. On November 18, he was sentenced to two years at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
The other suspect, 42-year-old Dustin Ayres of Cushing, received his sentence earlier this year in February.
