Pelican Rapids Landowners Push Back on Commercial Campground

Oct 24, 2024 | 6:43 AM

In Pelican Rapids, a group of local landowners successfully opposed a proposed 26-unit campground on Grove Lake, spearheaded by Joseph Clauson, whose family has owned the land for over a century. Residents raised concerns about the environmental impact, including potential harm to bald eagle nests and the risk of zebra mussel infestation. At a recent meeting, Otter Tail County Commissioners unanimously rejected the project, citing concerns about the lake’s shallow water and ecosystem. While the decision was a relief for many residents, Clauson has not yet commented on the outcome.
