Hunter’s Death on North Turtle Lake

Oct 22, 2024 | 6:41 AM

On Friday, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tragic incident on North Turtle Lake, northeast of Underwood, around 5 p.m.. A group of duck hunters discovered an overturned boat approximately 150 meters from the public access point. The sole occupant of the boat, 76-year-old David Josephson of St. Paul, was found deceased.

Josephson, who had been staying at a nearby cabin, was hunting and fishing in the area. Family and friends had been unable to reach him since the afternoon. It appeared that Josephson had been duck hunting at the time of the incident, and authorities noted that he was not wearing a life jacket.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by private citizens and a Minnesota DNR Conservation Officer, handled the scene. Josephson’s body was sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
