According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Baardsen was working on a tractor and attempting to pull it with a pickup when an unknown accident caused the tractor to drive over him, pinning him underneath. Elbow Lake resident 48-year-old David Alex Hansen is facing a felony charge of Issuing a Dishonored Check in Otter Tail County. According to court documents, Hansen was previously convicted of theft and ordered to pay $18,877.23 in restitution. On December 29, 2023, Hansen attempted to make this payment with a check, but an issue arose when the written and numerical amounts on the check differed. He then wrote a new check on-site.

However, on January 9, 2024, the check was returned with the notation “no account found.” Upon investigation, it was discovered that the account had been closed since October 5, 2020. Further inquiries revealed Hansen had issued at least ten additional checks from this closed account. Hansen claimed he was unaware the account was closed.

He made his first court appearance on (Monday, October 14, 2024), regarding the charges.
