The fire that destroyed Stub’s Dining & Gunpowder Bar in Battle Lake on September 16th has been deemed non-suspicious, according to Police Chief Eric Dison. No evidence of foul play was found after an investigation conducted by a deputy state fire marshal and a consulting firm hired by the restaurant’s insurance carrier. However, the exact cause of the blaze remains undetermined.
The fire occurred while the historic restaurant was closed for the off-season. Despite efforts from several fire departments, the roof of the barn-like building collapsed as they battled the flames. Stub’s, which opened in 1969, has seen ownership changes, most recently about a year ago.
