Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM)-
The Laker football team came from behind in the final minute to pull off a dramatic 21-20 victory over the Little Falls Flyers on Thursday night. The Lakers earned the win on the last play of the game with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Elijah Wyckoff to Gus Okeson, marking their fourth win of the season.
Despite trailing for most of the game, the Lakers took the lead 15-14 with 2:21 left in the fourth quarter. They opted for a two-point conversion, which Caden Strand successfully scored. However, the Flyers quickly responded with a go-ahead score, taking the lead 20-15 with 1:05 remaining on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Gavin Anderson to Tarique Toure. It was Anderson’s third passing touchdown of the night and Toure’s second receiving touchdown. Following a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty called on the Flyers on their go ahead touchdown, the Lakers gained good field position on the ensuing kickoff and started their final drive at the Little Falls 45-yard line. Detroit Lakes utilized their remaining time wisely, with Wyckoff throwing his second passing touchdown of the game to secure the win. Caden Strand and Tyler Bye scored the other Laker touchdowns, with Strand played a huge role on offense, contributing over 200 rushing yards and making key receptions, including a crucial catch on the final drive to convert on a fourth down play.
With this victory, the Lakers improved their record to 4-3 for the year and are now 2-0 in section games. They will face East Grand Forks next week to conclude the regular season before entering the playoffs the following week.
