Finally, Some Good News in the Drug Overdose Crisis

Oct 10, 2024 | 7:02 AM

Minnesota saw an encouraging 8% drop in drug overdose deaths from 2022 to 2023, with significant reductions in both the metro and Greater Minnesota. Notably, opioid-involved deaths fell by 8%, and overdose prevention efforts have expanded, thanks to greater access to naloxone and increased state investments in harm reduction and recovery initiatives. However, nonfatal opioid overdoses rose by 11%, and meth and cocaine-related deaths continued to rise. Statewide efforts, including naloxone distribution and prevention funding, aim to address these ongoing challenges.
