Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 59 Under Investigation

A tragic three-vehicle crash on Highway 59 near Detroit Lakes on Tuesday afternoon has left two people dead, with details still under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol. The incident occurred at approximately 1:47 p.m. in Detroit Township, Becker County.

 

According to the State Patrol, a Toyota Corolla and a Ford Econoline were both traveling northbound on Highway 59 when they collided with a southbound Chrysler Town and Country. The precise sequence of events leading to the crash remains under investigation.

 

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Toyota Corolla, a 33-year-old man from Detroit Lakes, and a 60-year-old male passenger from Hawley, tragically lost their lives in the collision. Their identities are expected to be released later today. Neither victim was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

 

The driver of the Ford Econoline, identified as Evette Elana Fox, 59, of Bagley, was unharmed. She was wearing a seatbelt, and no alcohol was involved.

 

The driver and passenger of the Chrysler Town and Country, Marvin Leroy St. Germain, 84, and Marie Annette St. Germain, 82, both of Fosston, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Essentia Health for treatment. Both were wearing seatbelts.

 

The Minnesota State Patrol, Becker County Sheriff’s Office, St. Mary’s EMS, and the Detroit Lakes Fire Department all responded to the scene. Road conditions at the time of the accident were dry.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
