Early Morning Fire in Breckenridge

At around 5:54 Monday evening (September 23rd), the Breckenridge Police and Fire Departments responded to a structure fire on Nebraska Avenue.

According to officials, first responders found the detached garage near the alley was on fire. Officers worked to evacuate nearby residences while the Fire Department worked to extinguish the flames. A large pine tree near the garage ignited, and the hot embers from the tree were carried as far as four houses to the north, causing additional fires in yards and garages.

While fire crews were battling these fires, a live electrical line above the garage broke and was arcing while lying across the alley. Breckenridge Public Utilities responded and made the electrical line safe.

According to Breckenridge Police Chief Kris Karlgaard, the cause of the fire appears to be from hot embers in a fire pit near the garage that originally caught flame. There were no injuries reported and the incident is under investigation.
