2 Rescued from Lower Rice Lake

By Trish Johnson Sep 12, 2024 | 7:32 AM

Two individuals were rescued from Lower Rice Lake by White Earth Police early Wednesday after being reported missing in the area. Multiple search efforts, including drones and loudspeakers, failed to locate them initially. However, they were found using an airboat near State Highway 200 and were taken to local care facilities with non-life-threatening injuries. The two were cited for violating ricing regulations, as they were non-tribal members.

The use of the airboat, which can damage wild rice, is a last resort in search efforts. Police have urged people to respect state and tribal ricing regulations and follow safety guidelines to avoid such incidents. Key tips include informing someone of your plans, carrying essential safety gear, and staying with your watercraft if trouble arises. Additionally, using location-sharing apps can help expedite rescue efforts.
