DL City Council Meets

By Trish Johnson Sep 11, 2024 | 6:57 AM

The Detroit Lakes City Council held its regular monthly meeting last night, with several key topics discussed. Bradley Peterson, Executive Director of the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities, gave a presentation on the previous legislative session, highlighting why the bonding bill failed to pass.

One of the primary concerns raised was the ongoing crisis in Emergency Management Services (EMS) for cities outside the Twin Cities metro area. Research shows that reimbursement from insurance companies only covers about 55% of the cost, creating a significant funding gap.

On a brighter note, the DL Library is set to undergo major improvements, thanks to a generous grant.

Lastly, there was a mention from one of the council members about the important services provided by the Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

Don’t forget, the Truth in Taxation public comment meeting on the proposed levy and budget is scheduled for December 10th at 6:01 p.m.
