A 74-year-old man from rural Frazee has tragically died following a motor vehicle accident in Becker County. The incident occurred on September 9, 2024, on County Highway 56, west of 400th Avenue near Little Toad Lake. According to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, Mathew John Mess was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer westbound when the vehicle veered off the road, rolled into a ditch, and collided with a power pole. Sadly, Mess was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Several local agencies, including the Detroit Lakes and Frazee Fire Departments, Frazee Rescue, Essentia-St. Mary’s EMS, and Wild Rice Power Company, were involved in the response. There have been no updates regarding the potential causes of the accident, such as road conditions or vehicle issues.
