The Laker football team travel to Perham and won the ‘Battle for the Paddle’ trophy game on Friday night, 35-8, improving their record to 2-0. After falling behind 8-7 in the first quarter, Detroit Lakes shut down the Yellowjackets attack to claim the victory. The Yellowjackets saw success through the air with Ashton Detloff, who caught a touchdown pass and had over 100 yards receiving. Quarterback Alex Blume dished the ball around well for Perham, but they were still held to just the lone touchdown. Andy Bartnes and Nick Buboltz caught touchdown passes from Strand, and Ryan Francis scored his first rushing touchdown. Easton Wahl also had a touchdown in the winning effort.

The Lakers will aim to maintain their undefeated streak next week as they host the Fergus Falls Otters in another rivalry matchup. Perham has fallen to a 1-1 record and will look to bounce back next week when they travel to East Grand Forks to face the Green Wave.
