The Laker volleyball team was eager to return to the court after losing their first two games of the season last week. They found success on the road by securing their first win of the season on Tuesday night at Fergus Falls High School, winning 3-1 against their section and conference rivals, the Otters.
Detroit Lakes maintained a strong lead during the first set and pulled away in the late stages. DL’s Addie Wills contributed five kills in the first set, along with sophomore Carlee Reller, resulting in a first set win 25-20.
Fergus Falls made a strong comeback in the second set, winning 25-18, as Detroit Lakes committed numerous attacking and service errors. The Otters tied the match at 1-1 with six kills by Rachel Debrito and three by Brook Zierden.
In the third set, Logan Fredrickson’s performance gave the Lakers a 17-16 lead. After breaking the tie at 16, Detroit Lakes never trailed again in the third set, winning it by a score of 25-22.
The fourth set was solid all around, culminating in a 25-17 victory for Detroit Lakes.
The Lakers improved to 1-2 on the season and will return to their home court this Thursday when they host Sauk Rapids-Rice. KDLM will broadcast Thursday’s game, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The loss drops Fergus Falls to 0-3 on the season.
