Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM)-
The Laker football team secured a 41-14 victory over the defending section champion Rocori Spartans on Friday night, marking their first win of the new season and avenging last year’s playoff loss.
Despite trailing 14-13 at the end of the 1st half, the Lakers dominated the second half, shutting out the Spartans 28-0. Senior quarterback Caden Strand led the team, unofficially tallying 12 carries for 132 yards and five touchdowns and also throwing a touchdown pass to senior Andy Bartnes.
With the win, the Lakers improved to 1-0 and are set to face the Perham Yellowjackets next week. Perham defeated Hawley 14-12 on Friday night and are also 1-0.
