The Laker volleyball team sustained their second loss of the season, falling to St. Cloud Tech 3-1 on Thursday night at the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse. Despite winning the first set, the Lakers could not close out the second and third sets, and the Tigers secured the win by dominating the fourth set. St. Cloud Tech’s junior outside hitter, Miracle Jensen, led the team with 27 kills.
Detroit Lakes won the first set 25-21. They fell behind early but scored eight unanswered points to take an 8-2 lead. The Tigers made a comeback, but DL won the first set. Logan Fredrickson led the Lakers with blocks, and Addie Wills and Carlee Reller also contributed with kills.
St. Cloud Tech made a strong comeback after after trailing 20-14, in the second set. After taking a timeout the Tigers showed strong defense and solid offense.
The Lakers and Tigers were evenly matched in the third set, with the score tied at 22-22. St. Cloud Tech continued to see stellar play from Jensen. Her performance along with excellent passing from their setter, Isabelle Glieden, and solid defense from libero Lainey Sheetz ultimately gave the Tigers the upperhand.
The Tigers maintained a lead throughout the deciding fourth set, jumping out to an 8-1 lead and eventually securing the set with a 25-17 win.
The Lakers’ loss brings their overall record to 0-2, and they will face another section and Central Lakes Conference opponent on Tuesday when they travel to Fergus Falls to play against the Otters. St. Cloud Tech secured their first win of the season, bringing their overall record to 1-2.
