Gage Davis Barnes, 34, has been charged with felony third-degree burglary in Becker County District Court following a break-in at a detached garage on Mill Pond Drive in rural Becker County on December 2, 2023. Court records indicate that Barnes admitted to the burglary during a jail interview on January 18, where he confessed to stealing various items while under the influence of drugs.

Barnes revealed he took a Stihl saw, pole saw, extendable plank, Big Buddy heater, tip-ups, a DeWalt table saw, and a ladder. Following his admission, law enforcement officers recovered these items from his residence in Vergas.

On June 12, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony kept the imposition of Barnes’ sentence, meaning that if he successfully completed his probation, the felony charge could be reduced to a misdemeanor. Barnes was sentenced to 38 days in jail, credited for time served, fined $500, and ordered to pay $2,245 in restitution. He must also abstain from illegal drugs and alcohol, complete a comprehensive assessment, and follow any recommended aftercare, as part of his five-year supervised probation.
