Anglers and outdoor enthusiasts have some important updates from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) this week.
**Mille Lacs Walleye Limit Change:**
Starting this Friday, August 16, walleye anglers on Mille Lacs Lake can now harvest up to two walleyes per trip. This new regulation is in effect through Saturday, November 30. Anglers are allowed to keep two fish between 18-20 inches, or one fish within that range and another over 28 inches.
The change comes after population surveys indicated a healthy number of walleye in the 18-20 inch range. The new limit is designed to help anglers enjoy catching and keeping the “eaters” they prefer. For the complete list of Mille Lacs Lake fishing regulations and updates on state-licensed angler catches, visit the Minnesota DNR’s website.
**Upcoming Outdoor Webinars:**
The Minnesota DNR is also offering free webinars as part of its Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series. These webinars are a great opportunity for those interested in wildlife and outdoor skills to learn from experts.
– **Wednesday, August 14:** Kraig Kiger, DNR Shooting Sports Program Administrator, will cover tree stand safety. This session will provide crucial tips on ensuring your deer stand remains safe before, during, and after the hunting season.
– **Wednesday, August 21:** Angling expert Jason Swingen will discuss fishing on the North Shore of Lake Superior, offering insights into targeting steelhead, pink salmon, and coaster brook trout.
These webinars are free, but registration is required. To sign up or find more information, visit the Outdoor Skills and Stewardship page on the Minnesota DNR’s website.
