At this year’s Becker County Fair, Peggy Disse Stellmach and Jerry Doyea were honored as the 2024 Outstanding Senior Citizens. Despite their different backgrounds, both share a deep commitment to their community. Stellmach, who lives in Lake Park, was recognized for her longtime volunteer work with the Becker County Museum and Lake Park Garden Club. She has also contributed fresh produce from her garden to the local food pantry.
Doyea, a Detroit Lakes resident, was acknowledged for his dedicated service as a volunteer driver for Becker County Human Services and his significant involvement with the Lake Region Veterans Color Guard. His volunteer work includes organizing and participating in numerous parades and funerals each year.
Additionally, the fair featured the Project 412 Best Homemade Salsa Contest, where local residents competed in the “hot” and “medium” salsa categories. The winners were announced following the senior citizen awards, with Heidi Evans and Marsha Parker of Detroit Lakes taking top honors.
