Increased Skies Activity Linked to Fargo AirSho Preparations and WeFest

Jul 26, 2024 | 7:31 AM

Residents have noticed increased air traffic over Detroit Lakes and have been sharing their observations online. The buzz is due to two major events: the upcoming Fargo AirSho and the popular WeFest.

After a three-year hiatus, the Fargo AirSho is set to return to Hector International Airport on July 27 and 28, 2024. This year’s event promises thrilling performances from the US Navy Blue Angels and the F-22 Raptor Demonstration team. According to Frank Lottino of the Detroit Lakes Becker County Airport, three of these impressive aircraft are using the local airport for practice sessions and parking, contributing to the noticeable increase in air activity.

In addition to the AirSho preparations, there is also an uptick in traffic at the Detroit Lakes Becker County Airport due to attendees arriving for WeFest, which takes place next week. The combined effect of these two events has led to more planes and helicopters being seen in the skies.

For those curious about the heightened air traffic, now you know: it’s all in preparation for two major events set to bring excitement and visitors to our area. Don’t miss out on the Fargo AirSho and enjoy the festivities at WeFest!
