Minutes from the Detroit Lakes Arts and Culture Commission gathered on June 26, and at that time Karen Skoyles reminded members to avoid conducting commission business via email outside of public meetings due to compliance issues.
Amy Stearns updated the utility box artwork project, explaining ongoing negotiations with MNDOT over a disputed location. Despite this, the commission selected the top five submissions for new utility box wraps.
For the “Art on a Stick” project, the commission decided to showcase 16 pieces, ensuring broad artist participation. Chris Henwood noted that each piece will feature a QR code linking to artist information.
The commission will seek approval for these projects from the Public Utilities Commission and City Council. However, the Park Board’s approval for “Art on a Stick” will be postponed until August.
The next meeting is set for July 24, 2024, at 4:00 PM in the Becker County Museum Conference Room. Stay tuned for more updates on these community art initiatives!
