Attention, Becker County residents: If you own rural vacant land or agricultural land-only property, brace yourselves for a tax increase next year. The Minnesota State Board of Equalization has mandated significant hikes in property values to ensure they align with state requirements. Here’s what you need to know:
– **Rural Vacant Land**: Countywide, the market value of rural vacant land is set to increase by 20%.
– **Agricultural Property (Land Only)**: These properties will see a 10% rise in market value.
– **Specific Townships**:
– In **Two Inlets Township**, residential land and structures on-water, and seasonal residential recreational non-commercial land and structures on water, will both see a 10% increase.
– **Audubon, Cormorant, and Erie Townships** will each experience a 5% hike in the values of residential land and structures, as well as seasonal residential recreational non-commercial land and structures on water.
The state stepped in after former Becker County Assessor Tony Vigen didn’t adjust property values sufficiently to meet the required 90-105% of the sales price of similar properties. As a result, these adjustments are now necessary and non-negotiable for 2024 tax assessments.
The updated tax assessments will be addressed at the county’s truth-in-taxation hearing in December. For more detailed information, visit the Becker County parcel information website【47†source】【48†source】.
