Owatonna-based tomato grower Bushel Boy has been ordered to pay nearly $200,000 in back wages and damages to 94 employees after an investigation revealed unpaid overtime. The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) found that Bushel Boy, along with Arizona’s Oro Valley Ag Services LLC, failed to compensate workers properly under the Minnesota Fair Labor Standards Act. Workers, including domestic migrants and H-2A visa holders, consistently worked over 48 hours a week from August 2020 to August 2022 without receiving overtime pay. This case highlights ongoing issues with labor rights for migrant workers amid heated debates over their treatment and compensation.
