Today is the day we’ve been waiting for!  Let the Adventure begin with a fairy tale straight from Denmark to our backyard, can YOU find the Secret Troll and the horrible Golden Rabbit with his motorcycle helmet eyes on our beautiful backyard!  Danish recycle artist and former rapper Thomas Dambo brings his fairytale to life with Giant Trolls, a terrible Golden Rabbit, and Magical portals, creating an enchanting art installation from recycled materials. Inspired by his mother’s stories of trolls and Vikings, Dambo’s work turns trash into treasure, promoting environmental awareness and the joy of being outdoors. Detroit Lakes will feature six trolls, including the tallest one Dambo and his crew have created yet, and a rabbit made from yellow plastic boxes rescued from a landfill. Heads, feet, and portals for the trolls were built in Denmark and then assembled locally. This project, funded by local donations, aims to boost tourism and spotlight Becker County. Over 400 folks have assisted Dambo in one way or another.  For example last Thursday I and a handful of other media folks including MPR, PBS, WDAY, The StarTrib, Freelance Writers, and our own Vikki Gerdus from the DL Tribune and I were whisked away in a blacked-out van, blindfolded and taken by the guys from CBoyz to a mysterious location to be the first to see the 36-foot super-secret troll and the bad, bad Golden Rabbit.  We weren’t allowed to take our phones, so we wouldn’t accidentally give away the locations.  I have no idea how to get there, but they are worth taking on the adventure to find them.  Remember, you can touch and photograph the trolls, but no climbing on them! Pets are welcome too.  Begin with the Troll in the DL City Park, read the story, and follow the clues in the Giant Book located there as well.  Check out our Lakes Area Radio Website and Facebook for pictures and more details.  Post your pics and thoughts there as well.  Follow along as we celebrate the Vision of Project 412 & Thomas Dambo turning trash into treasure, saving the environment, and playing in our great outdoors.
