Hawley Nuggets’ Softball Season Ends with 11-1 Loss to DGF Rebels

The Hawley Nuggets wrapped up their 2024 Softball Season with another loss to the DGF Rebels on Thursday 5/30 in Frazee.  The Nugget Girls were able to stay alive in the elimination bracket on Wednesday with a 1-0…8 inning victory over the Thief River Falls Prowlers, and then met and beat the Menahga Lady Braves on Thursday 5/30 in Frazee, with another 1-0 victory in 7 Innings.  A leadoff walk by First Baseman McKenna Walker, to open the bottom of the 6th, she was sacrificed to 2nd by 3rd Baseman Hannah Stotts and after a K and an error, 2nd Baseman Addi Sanvik had the hit of the game with an RBI Single to score Walker, for a Hawley 1-0 lead.  So Starter Eagan Hastings continued her run of scoreless innings getting Menahga out in the 7th Inning, she gave up a hit, buy was able to the 9th hitter on a K and then a flyout to end the game. Hawley then met with DGF for a second game on Thursday, in that game DGF got going in the bottom of the 4th inning with 2 runs, the Rebels added 2 more in the 5th and 1-run in the bottom of the 5th.  Hawley got their 1-run in the Top of the 6th.  DGF then finished off the game with 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th to get a 11-1 victory to return the Rebels to the State Tournament and to defend their State Championship from 2023.  Congratulations to the Nuggets on a fine Season, with only 2-Seniors….Jesa Somdahl and Zoe Clamot, leaving the program a lot of talent will be returning.
