Hawley Nuggets Upset Pelican Rapids 9-8 in Elimination Thriller

The #7 Seed in the South, Hawley Nuggets Boys Baseball Season is NOT over, as they pick up an elimination game victory over the #4 Seed in the South, Pelican Rapids Vikings on Friday in Perham 9-8.  In a back ‘n forth game, the Nuggets get an early lead with a Top of the First Inning run after DH Dillon Hoestra got hit by a pitch, he eventually came around to score on an RBI Single by Catcher Cael Kosmatka. The Vikings came right back and scored in the bottom of the inning with a Double by Timmy Guler and an RBI Single by Catcher Ethan Sjostrom.  In the bottom of the 2nd, the Vikings went ahead 2-1, on a leadoff Single by Maclain Hovland and he came around to score on a K and throw to First base.  Hawley tied it at 2, with a run in the Top of thew 3rd, on a RBI Single by 3rd Baseman Own Becker.  Pelican then countered with 2 in the Bottom of the 3rd, with a 2-RBI Single by Starting Pitcher Estaban Garza.  Hawley got one back in the Top of the 4th, before the Vikings opened up a 7-3 lead with 3 in the Bottom of the 4th, on 3 Singles and a Hawley Error.  The counter punch continues as Hawley scored 4 in the Top of the 5th to tie the game at 7.  After 1 out, Hawley offense opened with 3 Singles by Hayden Rux, Owen Becker and Carter Ambuehl, then a BB to Jayden Ambuehl and a big 2-RBI Single by 2nd Baseman Aiden Eilertson.  In the Bottom of the 6th, the Vikings took an 8-7 lead with two 2-out Doubles, off New Pitcher Brody Hadley, who took over from Starter Tommy Slette.  After 6, Pelican Rapids had an 8-7 lead, before Hawley continued their attack with 2 more runs in the 7th, on HP, Single and an RBI Double by then Pitcher Brody Hadley.  Hadley remained at 2nd  after a rundown at 3rd Base, gave Hawley their first out.  This brought up Now Rightfielder Wyatt Jetvig hit a Sacrifice fly to score Hadley and give Hawley a 9-8 lead.  This gave Pelican Rapids only the Bottom of the 7th to tie it up.  The Vikings went down, in the only 1-2-3 inning of the game, as Hawley advanced with a 9-8 victory and continue their Season on Monday at 2pm on KRCQ.  Brody Hadley did get the Win and Lucas Verdorn took the Loss in relief for the Vikings.
