Plans for expansion are brewing as the northside industrial park sets its sights on growth. The Detroit Lakes Development Authority has its eye on potential in its own backyard, eyeing an expansion of property, if one obstacle can be overcome – a hill in the way. During the recent Development Authority meeting, discussion centered around 983 Richwood Road, a property purchased in 2023 for $435,300. With seven agricultural buildings and a 1½ story house dating back to 1900, there’s plenty of potential. But it’s the highest point of the 25-acre parcel that’s caught attention, reaching 1,395 feet. $10,000, they’ll evaluate soil quality and potential gravel sources on the property’s northeast quadrant. The hope? To uncover gravel that could be sold, offsetting the cost of leveling the land.
