(MNN) – Opponents warn a proposed E-R-A (Equal Rights) and abortion rights constitutional amendment the Minnesota House votes on later today (Mon) leaves out any prohibition of religious discrimination. Backers say the state and federal constitutions already protect religious freedom, which Saint Cloud Democrat Dan Wolgamott (WOLE-guh-mot) says is a good thing; however, “I want to take a ‘belt and suspenders’ approach and leave no stone unturned in including religion in the E-R-A. It’s consistent with both policy and core American values.” Wolgamott plans to propose the change today, which will likely prompt heated debate in the Minnesota House.
Their ”main duty” is educational, but that won’t be the only goal for the Becker County Shriff’s Office. Now, there is a new 22-foot vessel with 250 HP to help in emergency aid and rescues. But, educating weekend boaters is only one job for the water patrol. The biggest issue that doesn’t seem to go away, wearing lifejackets. According to the Minnesota has had 144 boating fatalities between 2014 through 2023. Voters agree with the need for upgrades to ensure the safety of everyone on our local lakes. The purchase of the new boat was made possible because of a $98,000 grant and the sale of the old boat. About 2/3 of the boat was paid for through the MN Federal Safety Equipment Grant with the remaining costs paid via Becker County funds.
