Using a hammer to solve property disagreements can lead to a gross misdemeanor 5th degree assault 3 days in jail (credit for time served), put you in supervised probation for 1 year and there will be conditions to follow and a $375 in court fines. That is exactly what happened to Nicholas Lorin Bromeling, 41, of rural Detroit Lakes. On March 25th in the 12000 block of Becker County Road 17. Bromeling used a hammer to end the on-going dispute with his neighbor over the use of the easement for parking. When the officer arrived Bromeling was found in the driveway trying to pound a fence post in the middle of the driveway. This solution was not effective. The only injury in this altercation was a swift kick to the shin of the neighbor who tried to remove the post but accidentally kicked Bromeling. Bromeling did admit to swing the hammer at his neighbor who then tackled him to the ground. After the tussle the process through the court system in Becker County resulted in the probation and fines for his solution to handling driveway disagreements with his neighbor.
