We all know fishing opener is this weekend, but how many know its also “Take a Mom Fishing Weekend” too? Introduced in 2023 more than 2,400 Minnesota moms joined the challenge. any mom who catches a fish and posts it to the DNR’s Facebook page will be entered into a drawing for over 100 prizes. That’s not all being offered this year. Today (Tuesday) participants can tune in for a pre-challenge virtual Fishing 101 hosted by Women Anglers of Minnesota, covering topics like gear, set-ups and techniques to get you started. Fishing 101 attendees will also have the chance to win a free annual membership to Women Anglers of Minnesota. To register visit the DNR “Take a Mom Fishing Weekend” Facebook page. Details on registration and other opportunities to catch a big one this weekend. All participants who submit a fish will be entered in a random drawing for more than 100 prizes provided by the Student Anglers Organization and its partners, including gift cards from SCHEELS stores and Lund Boats. The event is sponsored by the MN DNR, the Student Anglers Association and the Women Anglers of MN. Also, remember that Minnesota moms can fish without a license this Mother’s Day weekend.
