(Otter Tail County Press Release)

You may have noticed the work going on around the Holiday Inn in Detroit Lakes. For example, Trees have been cut down on the west side. There’s a good reason for that. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources supervisor for parks and trails David Schotzko is now accepting bids for the construction of a 24 hour publicly accessible boat ramp on the north side. The launch ramp will extend 35 feet, which is 5 feet longer than typical landings. Larger watercrafts and more and more boaters are becoming commonplace now. Parking will be another noticeable difference. As it is now, boaters off load their boat but then have to drive a distance to find parking and then have to walk back again. The new landing will be similar to the landing on the south shore of Detroit Lake. There will be plenty of parking on a paved lot, portable toilets and space for an aquatic invasive species station. Access to the north shore public access will be from the frontage road. Schotzko also said he does not know what the cost will be, that will be determined as bids come in to the DNR who in turn will continue to work with city officials, members of the lake association and members of the Pelican River Watershed District. A contractor is slated to be selected in June with the project completed by the end of September.
