Flag day is just around the corner and on May 11th the state will unveil the new state flag. The new flag was designed by Andrew Prekker, from Luverne MN. Prekker studied MN history and culture and familiarized himself with “vexillogogy” the experts in flags, to create a unique design. Earlier this month some of the Minnesota Republican lawmakers announced they wanted to halt the new flag’s rollout and give Minnesotans a chance to provide more feedback on the design. Republicans introduced three flag-related bills, including one pushing for a referendum on the design that would be put to voters. The new flag makes its official debut on Flag Day, May 11.
