The Laker baseball team played a doubleheader against the Park Rapids Panthers on Tuesday at Washington Park in Detroit Lakes.
In the first game, the Panthers won 2-0, shutting down the Laker offense. Matt Johanning pitched for six innings and only gave up two hits. DJ Clark came in to finish the seventh and earned a save. Chaz Eckhoff pitched for the Lakers and suffered the loss, even though he pitched seven innings, gave up only two runs on two hits, and struck out four batters.  However, the Lakers bounced back in the second game and won 10-2. They scored four runs in the third inning and five runs in the fifth inning, chasing Panther pitcher Sawyer Torkelson from the mound. Noah Rieber pitched well for the Lakers, going seven innings, giving up only two runs on three hits, walking one batter and striking out eight. With the win, the Lakers are now 1-3 overall. They will play their next game against the Alexandria Cardinals, a section opponent, on Friday. The Panthers’ record is now 5-4 overall. The win is the first for new head coach Mark Gulseth.
