FARGO, N.D. – As electric vehicles (EVs) become increasingly popular in North Dakota and Minnesota, the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Council of Governments (FM Metro COG) is spearheading efforts to ensure the community is ready for the EV boom. With falling battery prices and growing awareness of EV benefits, major automobile manufacturers are transitioning to electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. FM Metro COG’s plan aims to make Fargo-Moorhead “EV-ready” by identifying current and potential barriers to EV adoption and developing strategies to address them.

The plan will cover infrastructure and service needs, zoning, parking, permitting, and funding. Once completed, it will serve as a framework for cities to support EVs in their communities. To gather input, FM Metro COG is conducting an EV Readiness Survey until May 1. Residents of Cass and Clay counties are encouraged to participate. The survey results will inform local jurisdictions and planning partners about current EV usage and awareness, leading to potential recommendations for future EV adoption.
