Minnesotans are gearing up for the spring turkey hunts, starting this weekend from April 17th to May 31st. The first three seasons to open are the archery, youth, and zone A. Chad Thesing from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources suggests this is an excellent opportunity to introduce children to the outdoors. He explains that turkey hunting is relatively simple: find a spot, make your calls, and wait for the turkeys to come to you.

For comfort, Thesing recommends getting into a blind with a heater to ward off the morning chill. He also advises hunters to be cautious before shooting because turkeys often gather closely. Thesing warns against shooting at a turkey if another is behind it, as it could result in accidentally hitting multiple birds. Each hunter is allowed to take only one bird, and safety remains a top priority. Officials emphasize the importance of being aware of surroundings, especially on public lands where others may be present.

Turkey tags can be purchased over the counter wherever hunting and fishing licenses are sold. For more information on turkey hunting, visit the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website by clicking here.
