WINONA, Minn. – Matthew Manka, 29, from Winona, has been arrested for assaulting a couple in their 60s with whom he was residing. The incident occurred at an apartment on Mankato Avenue. Early Tuesday morning, Manka brought a woman to the apartment, leading to an argument about her presence. Allegedly, Manka struck the 63-year-old man in the head multiple times with a plastic liquor bottle. Despite warnings to stop, Manka continued until the man retaliated by striking him with a cylindrical club that doubles as a taser, ending the assault and causing injury to Manka’s head. Manka received medical treatment and is now charged with fifth-degree assault. The victim, deemed to have acted in self-defense, was not cited.
