GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Alexander Gothberg, a Grand Forks man, has been sentenced to ten years in prison after his two-year-old daughter overdosed on fentanyl while in his care. Gothberg pleaded guilty to child endangerment, child neglect, and several drug-related charges on April 15, 2024. Court records indicate that in April 2023, Gothberg called 911 because he believed his daughter was overdosing on fentanyl. Following the incident, investigators found a variety of drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and marijuana, in Gothberg’s home. They also discovered digital scales, two cell phones, a handgun, and approximately $700 in cash. Gothberg admitted to selling marijuana and fentanyl, although he claimed to have stopped selling a few months prior to his arrest.
In addition to the charges Gothberg pleaded guilty to, 14 more felony charges were filed against him in a separate case on May 9. The Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office stated that Gothberg received the maximum sentence for all counts and will be placed on three years of supervised probation after serving his ten-year prison term.
