The St. Cloud Police Department is actively recruiting community members to join its SCPD Reserve Unit, a vital volunteer group that plays a key role in community engagement and special events. The department will host an information open house to introduce potential candidates to the responsibilities and opportunities within the reserve unit. Reserve officers (ROs) contribute to various tasks, such as traffic control during parades and events, serving as role players for officer training, and participating in community engagement programs like the Community OutPost program (COP House).
New members of the reserve unit receive uniforms, equipment, and training in self-defense, pepper spray use, handcuffing, traffic control, radio communications, de-escalation, and other necessary areas. While applicants are not required to have aspirations of becoming full-time officers, they must undergo a background check. ROs are expected to attend monthly training sessions on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The informational meeting for interested applicants will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd, at 5:30 PM at the police department. This is an excellent opportunity for community members to serve and engage with their local law enforcement agency.
