Runningen Family Honors Late Veteran with Donation to Fergus Falls Veterans Home

By Paul Torres Apr 10, 2024 | 8:22 PM

The Runningen family’s legacy of hunting and trapping, spanning five generations, continues to honor the memory of late veteran Ruben L. Runningen. Through their “Hides for Veterans” campaign, the family has donated nearly $4,500 over four years to the Minnesota Veterans Home (MVH) in Fergus Falls. Ruben Runningen, a passionate hunter and trapper, resided at MVH from 2017 until his passing in 2019. His family, led by Larry Runningen, initiated the campaign in 2020 to collect deer hides, raising funds for veterans’ recreation and bingo activities, which Ruben enjoyed.

The community’s support, including local businesses and hunters, has been instrumental in the campaign’s success. This year, a check of $1,374 was presented to MVH on March 27, representing the proceeds from the 2023 deer hunting season. The donation was made by Ruben’s great-granddaughter, Nola Glocke, and grandson-in-law, Erick Blaisdell. The Runningen family plans to continue the campaign in future deer hunting seasons, ensuring the legacy of service and camaraderie lives on. The MVH extends its gratitude to the Runningen family and supporters for their dedication to veterans’ well-being.
