A tense standoff unfolded in Lewiston on Monday night when 38-year-old Lance Rashawn Gore fired a gun inside a townhome with children present. Responding to reports of gunshots and yelling, Lewiston Police and Winona County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the scene on Benson Drive around 9:20 p.m. Gore, who is on probation, refused to come out, prompting the evacuation of neighboring townhomes. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in at 10:30 p.m. and negotiated with Gore for several hours. He eventually surrendered, emerging from the house with two children, ages 14 and 13.
Gore faces charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and being a felon in possession of a gun. Investigators found evidence suggesting he had fired two rounds from a long gun before law enforcement arrived. One bullet was discovered in the ceiling, and another was found outside, possibly fired through an open window.
