The Frazee Fire Department has issued a Red Flag Warning for Becker County and 31 other counties in western border, west central, and southwest Minnesota. Effective from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, the warning is in response to extreme fire risk conditions predicted by the National Weather Service.
The affected counties include Becker, Big Stone, Brown, Chippewa, Clay, Cottonwood, Douglas, Grant, Jackson, Kandiyohi, Kittson, Lac Qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, Marshall, Martin, Murray, Nobles, Norman, Pipestone, Polk, Pope, Redwood, Renville, Rock, Stevens, Swift, Traverse, Wadena, Watonwan, Wilkin, and Yellow Medicine.
A Red Flag Warning indicates that fires can quickly spread and become uncontrollable due to strong winds and low humidity levels. Residents are advised not to burn any materials in these counties and to ensure that any recent burning is completely extinguished. The Department of Natural Resources will not issue open burning permits for large vegetative debris burning during the warning period, and campfires are discouraged.
