Someplace Safe Expands to Pelican Rapids with New Office

By Paul Torres Apr 3, 2024 | 3:56 PM

Someplace Safe, a leading nonprofit agency supporting victims and survivors of crime, has announced the opening of its new standalone office location in Pelican Rapids. This expansion comes in response to the increasing demand for services from the Pelican Rapids community and surrounding areas. Formerly operating a one-day-a-week office space at the Food Shelf in Pelican Rapids, Someplace Safe recognized the need for a full-time space due to a surge in survivors seeking assistance and heightened requests for community education. Over the past year alone, Someplace Safe has provided services to nearly 100 individuals in the Pelican Rapids community.

Thip Prathane has been appointed as the Crime Victim Advocate for the Pelican Rapids advocacy office. Reflecting on her new role, Prathane expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I look forward to helping crime victims, meeting the needs of our area, and building a stronger foundation for survivors in such a beautiful community.”

Operating hours at the Pelican Rapids location are Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Services are accessible in-person, virtually, via webchat, text message, or after hours on the agency’s 24-hour crisis line. Interpreters are available for foreign language and Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) individuals. Someplace Safe also offers specialized services for youth, labor trafficking, and sex trafficking.

Someplace Safe Pelican Rapids is conveniently located at 28 N Broadway. For inquiries or assistance, individuals can reach out via phone at 218.464.9828 or email at otc.pelican@someplacesafe.info.

Sheila Korby, Someplace Safe Executive Director, emphasized the importance of expanding services in Pelican Rapids, stating, “Someplace Safe has seen an increase in requests for services in Pelican Rapids over the past several years. Expanding the office to five days a week to better meet the needs of the community has been a goal of the agency for a few years. Having local accessible services for survivors of crime and violence is important for their access to safety.” To celebrate the opening of the new office, Someplace Safe will be hosting its first local event, the Purse Bingo Fundraiser, at the VFW in Pelican Rapids on Friday, April 5th.
