Governor Tim Walz recently visited a Minneapolis Veterans Home as part of his efforts to highlight his infrastructure plan. This visit follows his earlier stop at a State Patrol office to discuss the urgent need for a new State Patrol headquarters. The Minneapolis Veterans Home, one of 12 such facilities with over six dozen buildings, is in need of various upgrades. Governor Walz’s bonding proposal includes $12.8 million for general asset preservation and $16 million for remodeling at these facilities.

Governor Walz emphasized the importance of providing the best possible care for veterans, stating, “The men and women who serve our country deserve the best care our state can provide.” He also noted that these investments are part of a broader initiative to improve infrastructure across the state, including clean water, safe streets, and facilities for veterans and law enforcement. In addition to the Minneapolis Veterans Homes, the Governor’s bonding recommendations include $22.5 million to update Minnesota’s State Patrol Headquarters. Currently spread across six locations in multiple counties, the State Patrol facilities lack adequate evidence storage, secure areas, and basic space and equipment.
