REYNOLDS, N.D.- The volunteer firefighters in Reynolds are always prepared to respond to emergencies, regardless of the time of day. This dedication was evident recently when a car collided with an overpass near town, prompting a swift and coordinated response from the volunteer firefighters. Lindsay Skavlem, a volunteer firefighter in Reynolds, noted that the incident was more severe than what their department typically encounters. Despite this, the firefighters approached the situation with professionalism, providing first aid and rescue efforts as efficiently as possible.
Responding to such a significant incident can be challenging for a small volunteer fire department, even with well-trained volunteers. Fortunately, they received assistance from unexpected sources. An ER nurse, a physician, and a firefighter from another department happened to be driving by and stopped to lend a hand. Richard Canfield, another volunteer firefighter, expressed gratitude for the additional help, emphasizing that their small team can sometimes struggle to manage large-scale emergencies.
Skavlem emphasized the importance of recognizing the individuals who stopped to assist, highlighting their selflessness and willingness to go above and beyond. She acknowledged that while their names were not captured, their actions were invaluable and deserve recognition. Skavlem also reflected on the significance of kindness, noting that acts of kindness, especially in challenging situations, can have a positive ripple effect. She hopes that the actions of those who stopped to help will inspire others to demonstrate kindness and compassion in their own lives.
