
WILLMAR, Minn. -A violent incident unfolded at CentraCare – Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota, on Monday, leaving an emergency room worker seriously injured. According to police, the worker was stabbed by a patient undergoing treatment for a mental health issue. Authorities were called to the scene around 11:30 a.m. following reports of a combative patient. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the 31-year-old patient had attacked the worker with a knife. Despite the assault, the worker managed to escape but sustained serious injuries.
The assailant, who also suffered self-inflicted injuries during the incident, received medical attention before being taken into custody and transported to the Kandiyohi County Jail. Police have confirmed that the suspect, who has a history of erratic behavior and is on probation for a prior second-degree assault case, will face assault charges. In response to the incident, CentraCare issued a statement expressing sorrow and emphasizing their commitment to safety. They stated that incidents like these are becoming all too common in healthcare facilities nationwide and offered support to the injured employee and staff affected by the incident.
