Everett’s Barbershop, a beloved fixture in downtown Fargo since 2012, is embarking on an exciting new chapter. Owner Chelsey Ehlen announced on the barbershop’s Facebook page her plans to relocate the business to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where she resides.

“I’m thrilled to announce I am buying Jim’s Barber Shop in Detroit Lakes, MN and relocating Everett’s Barbershop. I’m so excited to move my shop to the community I live in and can’t wait to get started,” Ehlen said in the post.

The decision to move was not made lightly, as Ehlen expressed gratitude to the Fargo/Moorhead community for their support over the past 12 years. However, she feels the time is right for this change. The move will also allow her to spend more time with her family, eliminating the daily commute.

Named after their grandfather, Everett Cannon, a former owner of Moler Barber College of Hairstyling in Fargo, Everett’s Barbershop has been a family affair from the beginning. Chelsey Ehlen opened the shop with her sister, Maureen Robinson, who went on to open Trollwood Barbers in 2022.

As Everett’s prepares to bid farewell to Fargo on April 26, the legacy of the barbershop will continue. Isaac Horn, one of the barbers at Everett’s, will join Robinson at Trollwood Barbers. Another barber, Jed Felix, along with his wife Meg, a tattoo artist, are considering opening a new shop, possibly at the current Everett’s location.

Jim Kauffman, owner of Jim’s Barber Shop in Detroit Lakes, is confident that Everett’s Barbershop will thrive in its new home. “It will be a good spot for her. The town is growing and it’s just time for some young blood,” Kauffman said.
