In the early hours of March 14th, a swift response by Bemidji police thwarted a robbery at a local gas station. The incident unfolded at the Holiday Station Store on 1106 Paul Bunyan Dr. S., where a man allegedly stole a display of vaping products and brandished a firearm at the store clerk. A witness inside the store reported that the suspect attempted to flee with the display case and even tried to break a door window with a stool. The suspect also reportedly threatened to harm the store employee if they didn’t open the door. Surveillance footage described the suspect as a Native American male, between 5’10” to 6′ tall, with a heavier build. He was last seen wearing a black face mask, a gray jacket, tan cargo shorts, and black athletic shoes. Thanks to the collaboration of Bemidji Police Detectives and tips from the public, a juvenile matching the suspect’s description was identified around 11:30 a.m. The juvenile was located at a residence in Bemidji and arrested without any issues. Authorities will be forwarding a request for criminal charges to the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office.
